Once the summer resort of the Roman Emperor Tiberius, Sperlonga is a characteristic, delightful and charming little town, on the Ulyssian Riviera. The historic district is perched on a hill overlooking the hotel, and is a maze of passageways accessible only on foot. Along the way you'll find quaint shops, bars and restaurants and stunning views of the sea and the countryside. The area is famous for locally grown fruits and vegetables, and the cuisine draws heavily from it's seafaring heritage. Sperlonga is easily reached from Roma and Napoli. There is regular train service from both Roma and Napoli to the station in Fondi, a short ride away. Other picturesque towns are only a short distance away including Terracina, Gaeta, Circeo and Formia. You can also make day trips to the nearby islands of Ponza and Ventotene. |
